This site supports Kieran Mathieson's Web classes at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, USA. Particularly MIS 305 and MIS 480.
To get the most from these lessons, you should have your own Web site. There is some advice available. Set up an account today!
Your course is divided into lessons. Most lessons take one week to complete. See your course's Moodle site for a schedule, telling you what lessons are covered when, when exams will be held, etc. The syllabus on the Moodle site talks about grading and other stuff as well.
The tabs above give you access to the lessons. For example, the tab titled Basic Lessons lists four lessons: The big picture, Introducing HTML, More HTML, and Styling with CSS. Each lesson has one or more topics. For example, the lesson Introducing HTML has three topics: Document structure, Basic tags, and Images.
For each topic there are some notes, and some exercises. For example, the topic Basic tags has some notes, exercises, and a link to another tutorial.
Start by reading the notes. However, reading the notes is not enough. This is a learn-by-doing class. You learn by doing the exercises. Don't do the exercises, and you won't learn much. When it comes to the exams, you will do poorly. Since most of the grade in your class depends on exams, you will get a poor grade.
There are two types of exercises. Regular exercises are for you to work on to improve your understanding. They are included on this site, on lesson pages. Most have the answers supplied. Try them yourself before you look at the answers!
There is also a mastery exercise for each lesson. You will submit mastery exercises for a grade. See the course's Moodle site for details.
It is important that you ask questions! You will be confused at times. Expect this! Don't be discouraged. Ask questions in class. Visit Kieran during office hours. Talk to other humans who know about Web stuff. Use the forum on Moodle. Search the Web (Google is your friend). See the course's Moodle site for more details.
It is your responsibility to seek help. The exercises will help you know when you understand something. If you don't, get help.
